SURJ (Showing Up For Racial Justice) is an anti-racist organization committed to organizing white people to show up in solidarity with people of color in the movement for racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing, and education, SURJ moves white people to act as a part of a multi-racial majority to end white supremacy. We believe that it is incumbent on white people to dismantle the racist structures that we largely benefit from. We are committed to collective liberation, understanding that none of us are free until all of us are free.
We work alongside civil rights organizations, racial justice groups, and other community partners to actively combat racism and discrimination in our communities.
Join us in order to:
1) Explore questions in white anti-racist activism related to accountability, privilege, white fragility, and related issues;
2) Engage in concrete action to support our local accountability partners;
3) Learn how to get plugged into SURJ coordinating committee, working groups, and campaigns.
Folks who have already attended one SURJ Long Island meeting will split off from those who are new to SURJ for the first section of this meeting in order to avoid repetition.
Families with children are welcome!
Refreshments will be served!
